Session 3 – At The Manager

The Christmas Story with Gary and Chris

December 25, 2022 • Gary Olsen, Chris Reighley

In a world noisy with distraction and sentimental traditions, The Christmas Story with Gary & Chris invites you to return to the raw, radiant truth of the Incarnation—when God stepped into history not with pomp, but with purpose, humility, and hope. This 3-session Bible study combines rich biblical exposition, pastoral conversation, and cinematic storytelling from The Chosen’s Christmas episodes (The Shepherd and The Messenger). Together, we explore what it meant for Jesus to be born not just in Bethlehem, but into the brokenness of real life—and what it still means for us today.

Filmed for Sunday Night Bible Study, this resource is for educational purposes only and features commentary from Gary and Chris as they walk scene-by-scene through Luke’s Gospel, weaving in prophecy, theology, and devotion.

Whether you’re watching for the first time or rediscovering the wonder of the Nativity, this series will stir your heart and strengthen your faith.

SESSION 3: At the Manager

Main Theme: The Shepherd King and the First Worshippers

Summary:

As angels declare good news to shepherds, heaven bursts into song. These nobodies become the first witnesses of God’s greatest Somebody. In this final session, we reflect on worship, wonder, and the life-altering joy of encountering Christ.

Key Scriptures:

  • Luke 2:8–20 – Angelic announcement and shepherds’ response
  • Luke 2:19 – Mary treasured these things
  • Psalm 23 – The Lord is my Shepherd
  • John 10:11 – Jesus as the Good Shepherd
  • Hebrews 1:1–3 – The Son is the radiance of God’s glory
  • Matthew 2:1–12 (optional) – Visit of the Magi

Key Themes:

  • The shepherds’ inclusion as first evangelists
  • The nature of true worship—humble, immediate, joyful
  • Christ as the Shepherd who would become the Lamb

Application:

Have we lost our wonder? Are we proclaiming the good news with shepherd-like joy? Let us come and see—and go and tell.
