Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine

by Wayne Grudem

Chapter 6 — The Clarity of Scripture: Can ordinary people understand the Bible? The doctrine of clarity (or perspicuity) answers with a resounding yes. Scripture is written in such a way that anyone who reads it with a sincere heart, seeking God’s help, can understand its central message. This chapter examines how both the Old and New Testaments affirm Scripture’s clarity, while also addressing why misunderstanding occurs and the important role that teachers, scholars, and sound interpretation play in helping the church grow in understanding
