What the Bible Teaches About the Unseen World and Why It Matters

A 16-Session Teaching Series by Chris Reighley | Based on the Book by Dr. Michael S. Heiser

The Bible isn’t silent about the unseen realm—we just haven’t been taught to see it.

This 16-session expositional teaching series walks through Supernatural by Dr. Michael Heiser, revealing the cosmic drama woven throughout Scripture—from Eden to Armageddon, from rebellious gods to reclaimed nations, from dusty temples to the glorified Church. Designed for thoughtful believers, Bible teachers, small groups, and worldview builders, this series equips you to read the Bible with supernatural claritytheological depth, and mission-focused conviction.

You were not created to merely survive—you were redeemed to reign. You are not a passive observer in the spiritual battle—you are God’s sacred space, His agent of reversal, and future ruler with Christ. This is a study about reclaiming the awe, wonder, and spiritual worldview that has been hidden in plain sight.

About the Author: Dr. Michael S. Heiser

Dr. Michael S. Heiser (1963–2023) was a respected Bible scholar, seminary professor, and ancient Semitic languages expert. Best known for his work on the “Divine Council” worldview, Heiser’s scholarship restored supernatural coherence to the Bible without compromising its historical integrity. His books—including The Unseen RealmSupernatural, and Angels—have shaped modern evangelical understanding of biblical theology and spiritual warfare. This series is based on Supernatural, his accessible, popular-level introduction to the ideas explored more fully in The Unseen Realm.

About the Teaching Series

This verse-rooted, worldview-shaping teaching series draws from Heiser’s Supernatural to bring clarity to the Bible’s most often misunderstood ideas: spiritual geography, the divine council, angelic rebellion, cosmic restoration, sacred space, glorification, and the believer’s role in reclaiming the nations. Each session includes scriptural exposition, cultural context, theological reflection, and pastoral application—designed to help you see the Bible as it really is, not as we’ve often filtered it.

Lesson Outline

Chapter 1 – Believing the Bible

Do you really believe everything the Bible says—even the strange parts? This foundational lesson explores how the supernatural worldview is essential to biblical faith.

Chapter 2 – The Unseen Realm: God and the gods

Who are the “sons of God”? What is the Divine Council? And how does this shape biblical monotheism?

Chapter 3 – Once and Future Kings

You were created to reign. This session explores humanity’s royal calling in Eden and our role as God’s imagers on earth.

Chapter 4 – Divine Rebellions

The fall of man wasn’t the only rebellion. This chapter unpacks three divine rebellions that shape the entire biblical story.

Chapter 5 – Cosmic Geography

What does spiritual warfare have to do with maps and mountains? Learn how God divided the nations and what it means for global missions today.

Chapter 6 – The Word, the Name, and the Angel

Jesus didn’t first appear in Bethlehem. Meet the pre-incarnate Christ through His Old Testament titles and appearances.

Chapter 7 – Rules of Engagement

The Exodus wasn’t just history—it was holy war. Explore how God’s presence, law, and people engaged in spiritual conflict from Sinai forward.

Chapter 8 – Sacred Space

Where is God’s temple now? You are. This chapter unpacks sacred space, spiritual purity, and God’s indwelling presence.

Chapter 9 – Holy War

The conquest of Canaan was more than military—it was theological. Understand Israel’s battles in light of supernatural rebellion.

Chapter 10 – Hidden in Plain Sight

Why didn’t the powers of darkness stop the cross? Because God hid the gospel in plain sight—until it was too late.

Chapter 11 – Supernatural Intent

Every move Jesus made had strategic impact. From wilderness temptations to Mount Hermon, He was reclaiming enemy territory.

Chapter 12 – The Cloud Rider

The Son of Man rides the clouds—a title belonging only to Yahweh. This chapter explores Jesus’ boldest divine claim.

Chapter 13 – The Great Reversal

Pentecost wasn’t random—it reversed Babel. Discover how Acts 2 launches the gospel’s war on the powers.

Chapter 14 – Not of This World

You are sacred space in hostile territory. Baptism, holiness, and spiritual allegiance are acts of supernatural warfare.

Chapter 15 – Partakers of the Divine Nature

Salvation isn’t the end—it’s the beginning. You are destined for glorification, adoption, and co-reign with Christ.
