The Last Week of Jesus

April 6, 2020 • Chris Reighley • Matthew 21:1–11, Mark 11:1–11, Luke 19:29–44, John 12:12–19

Jesus enters Jerusalem as the promised King—riding in humility, received in praise, but weeping in judgment.

Introduction: Jesus’ triumphal entry is a deliberate fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy. Yet the adoration of the crowd is not matched by the conviction of their hearts.

Outline:

  1. Getting the Colt – Luke 19:29–34
  2. Prophetic Fulfillment – Zechariah 9:9; Matt. 21:4–5
  3. Crowds Cry ‘Hosanna’ – John 12:12–19
  4. Jesus Weeps Over Jerusalem – Luke 19:41–44
  5. Temple Inspection – Mark 11:11

Setup for Next Lesson: On Tuesday, Jesus returns to cleanse the temple, challenge corruption, and point to the cross.
