The Prophecy of Christmas

Introduction

Christmas is not merely a birth announcement—it’s the doctrine of the incarnation wrapped in swaddling clothes. Long before the manger, Jesus existed as the eternal Son of God. In Philippians 2 and Revelation 12, we glimpse the cosmic dimensions of Christ’s descent: He humbled Himself, engaged in spiritual warfare, and entered our world as the suffering Servant. This session explores theologically what Jesus had to do to come to earth—and why it reveals both His majesty and His mercy.

I. What Did Jesus Do Before Entering the World?

Philippians 2:5–11 – The Fivefold Descent of Christ

1. He Abandoned a Sovereign Position – “existed in the form of God”
2. He Accepted a Slave’s Place – “taking the form of a bond-servant (doulos)”
3. He Associated with Sinful People – “being made in the likeness of men”
4. He Adopted a Selfless Posture – “He humbled Himself… to death on a cross”
5. He Ascended a Supreme Prince – “God highly exalted Him… every knee will bow”

II. What’s Missing from the Manger?

Revelation 12:1–5 – The Cosmic Conflict Behind Christmas

• The Woman: Israel
• The Dragon: Satan
• The Male Child: Christ
• Spiritual warfare and divine protection

III. Application:

• Christmas is a declaration of war on sin, death, and the devil
• The incarnation displays Christ’s humility and victory
• Worship Jesus not just as a baby in a manger—but as the exalted Lord
